The goals of a water trial as defined by the PWDCA are to promote an environment that encourages:

  • The development of the working attributes of the Portuguese Water Dog;
  • A strong bond between dog and owner consistent with the Portuguese Water Dog’s heritage as a working companion; and
  • The creation of a modern water work activity specifically related to the breed’s unique abilities and historical function.

PWDs who still love to work, but who are not otherwise entered in the trial, are welcome to enter any level lower than previously achieved (or their current level, of course) on a FEO basis, as long as trial time limits have not been reached with regular entries. We have revised the Premium by eliminating the sentence that states otherwise. All rules and regulations, as stated in the Premium, apply to these non-regular entries. Please contact Elaine Rasmussen, Trial Secretary, if you have any questions at [email protected]

Tent Cabins (right) at Blue Oaks Campground, just a couple of miles from the Water Trial site, are still available; at a new, lower price of $30/night. That’s over 50% off the original booking price. This is a great option if you don’t want to drive 20-30 minutes from the lake to your hotel or B&B.
