PWDCNC Members Care! In times of disaster, the Club members want to assist fellow members as well as pet owners in general. As wildfires swept across Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, and Solano counties this past fall, an emailed announcement was sent out to the general membership, asking for help for members effected by the fires. Offers of assistance were prompt and generous. Several members offered to share their homes with any members who needed temporary shelter. Others offered to take in dogs and other pets that needed to be temporarily housed. Board member Mark Gilroy spearheaded the coordination of offers. He tracked the offers of assistance and helped connect those in need with members who were able to offer assistance. Thank you Mark! During and after the fires, organized efforts were made by Bay Area animal shelters, pet stores, and animal-lovers to support pets and farm animals that had been displaced by the Northern California wildfires. The PWDCNC members wanted to assist in these efforts also. At our Regional Specialty, held in Napa which just days before had been a staging area for firefighting teams, members attending donated $100.00, which was then donated to the Marin Humane Society. We received a very nice letter of appreciation from Marin Humane Society included here.
The 2017 Water Trial Was SO Much FUN! The weekend of August 4-6, 2017 was the PWDCNC Annual Water trials at Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area in Pleasanton, CA. We couldn’t have asked for better weather for our 57 entries trialing under judge extraordinaire, Sarah Kahn. Temperatures had been predicted for triple digits but instead stayed cool in the mornings and warm, without being unbearably hot, by afternoon. Friday afternoon 7 youngsters tried their hand at Junior level. All had a great time with some really close but not-quite-there performances. On Saturday Apprentice through Master levels were judged with many impressive performances by the teams. Following judging was the much anticipated Ducky Derby. Fifty-four rubber ducks were dumped into the lake and 3 lucky dogs were drawn to pick the winning ducks. The fun was followed by a dinner catered by Simply Elegance. A wonderful time was had by all getting a chance to relax and enjoy the delicious meal. Sunday all levels were tested with many “oh so close” performances. The very last team of the day saved the day from going O-fer. It was such a pleasure to have Sarah Kahn not just judging, but offering support and suggestions as the weekend progressed. Many of the competitors expressed their appreciation for her spending her weekend with us and helping us work toward more success and fun with our dogs. We were joined by several new members who came out to see what all the fun was about. Hopefully we’ll see them joining in the fun next year! We couldn’t have our trial running so smoothly without [...]
A Wonderful Weekend at the PWDCNC-Hosted Agility Trial at Manzanita Park in Prunedale! August 11-13 we hosted an agility trial at Manzanita Regional Park in Prunedale, just north of Salinas. Two rings were set up on a big, beautiful, grassy soccer field, with a lot of room for crating and parking. We co-hosted this trial with the Border Collie Club of Northern California, but our runs were scored separately from the Border Collies, which is always a win for us! The weather in Prunedale was perfect for agility, with cool mornings and temperate afternoons. Our excellent judge, Jim Primmer, designed some really fun, really fast courses that we all enjoyed.
